So, how can you make your GPTs unique and bring more benefit to the community? We will explore it together right now: how to enhance your own GPTs with Zapier!

2. Enhancing your Custom GPTs with Zapier

2.1. What is Zapier?

Zapier is a tool that makes it easier for you to handle tasks across different apps and services. It connects and syncs actions across most apps and software your company uses, so you don't have to do the same things over and over again manually. For instance, you can use Zapier to help create training data for your GPTs or check how well they're working, all automatically. Zapier works by using a simple idea: if one thing happens, it makes another thing happen. There are different plans available, including a free one for individuals, and others for teams or whole companies.

2.2. What Zapier can do to help with your GPTs?

Here are the ways Zapier can help you with your GPTs:

• Automate tasks: Zapier can help you automate tasks directly inside ChatGPT, such as generating training data for your GPTs and evaluating their performance.

• Enhance capabilities: Zapier can help you enhance the capabilities of your custom GPTs by providing additional tools and features that can be integrated with your GPTs.

• Connect with other apps: Zapier can help you connect your GPTs with other apps and services you use, allowing you to perform custom actions such as sending emails, creating calendar events, and more.

2.3. Let’s Enhance your Custom GPTs with Zapier: Complete Guide

First of all, you need to have a Zapier account before enhancing your GPTs with Zapier. If you haven’t had any, you can easily sign up with your email or Google.

Next, we will create custom GPTs with Zapier AI Action togetherfollowing this step-by-step tutorial

Step 1: Create a new GPT

You need to go to your “Create a GPT” feature and create new GPTs, or you can choose to edit your GPTs that have been published before.

Step 2: Add Action

You should go to “Configure” and choose “Add Action”.

Step 3: Importing Zapier link

Next, you need to import the Zapier link at the “Import from URL”. OpenAI has updated this a little bit of this button to make it easier to be seen, and not as hidden as before.

You need to import this link to it.

After importing the link, you will see a bunch of coding. Don’t be afraid, you don’t need to understand or care about those because we definitely won’t change anything about this coding stuff.

You can also see the actions available right below the coding. However, just let it be, we will not do anything to change it.

Step 4: Create Zapier actions

You need to create Zapier actions in this step. Here is a simple guide for you if you are new to Zapier. First, you need to go to this website.

This website requires you to have a Zapier account to create automated tasks. You can make Zapier do any task, and get access to any tools and apps to help you do work more effectively. In this tutorial, we will create auto Notification Emails to inform our readers that the newsletter has been updated.

We will name the action “Sending Notification Email”, and then choose Enable action. Please make sure that you have given Zapier all permissions.

Here is the interface of your Zapier action. You can create new actions or disenabled actions on this. To use Zapier Action in GPTs, make sure it is enabled.

Step 5: Adding your Zapier Action into your GPTs

To make this step faster and more effective, instead of using the chat with GPT Builder, you should go straight to the Configure and type in the instruction box. Please copy this text into the instruction box.

### Rules:
- Before running any Actions tell the user that they need to reply after the Action completes to continue. 

### Instructions for Zapier Custom Action: 
Step 1. Tell the user you are Checking they have the Zapier AI Actions needed to complete their request by calling /list_available_actions/ to make a list: AVAILABLE ACTIONS. Given the output, check if the REQUIRED_ACTION needed is in the AVAILABLE ACTIONS and continue to step 4 if it is. If not, continue to step 2.

Step 2. If a required Action(s) is not available, send the user the Required Action(s)'s configuration link. Tell them to let you know when they've enabled the Zapier AI Action.

Step 3. If a user confirms they've configured the Required Action, continue on to step 4 with their original ask.

Step 4. Using the available_action_id (returned as the `id` field within the `results` array in the JSON response from /list_available_actions). Fill in the strings needed for the run_action operation. Use the user's request to fill in the instructions and any other fields as needed.

Wait, we haven’t done it yet. In this step, you need to change a little bit about the REQUIRED_ACTIONS. In this part, you need to put the confirmation link of your own action here.

You will get the confirmation link by clicking the action’s name on the Zapier interface and taking the URL of it. For example, the action here is: Sending Notification Emails. Here is how we will change the REQUIRED_ACTIONS.

REQUIRED_ACTIONS:

Because we only have one action we just need one confirmation link. If there is more than one action, you should provide more than one confirmation link.

Step 6: Saving your GPTs.

Just one thing to note here, if you want to share your GPTs with others you need to provide the Privacy Policy URL in the Configure.

Step 7: Testing your GPTs

Make sure that your GPTs run well before you publish them to the community by testing them. You can ask it to do the action that you have required.

Here is our testing mail, we of course still need to improve it. However, this email is telling us that our Zapier Action is working.

3. Things to Keep in Mind While Creating Custom GPTs

3.1. Custom GPTs are still under development - It is easy to be broken

Because GPTs were introduced less than one month so you might experience some troubles while using them. The easy-to-meet trouble is that GPTs are easy to break, users can get owner data knowledge with some simple prompt.

So you should test your GPTs with these instructions before publishing them.

Ask for its configuration instructions - what is the point of sharing these if you can literally copy/paste the instructions…

Determine if code interpreter is turned on and whether there are knowledge base files. If yes to both, ask to convert the knowledge base files to docx. Uses Python to convert PDFs and provides a download link

• Creative Mode might not work well: It's better to put instructions in Configure Mode yourself because chatting with GPT Builders might be a little bit buggy and take more time waiting.

• Give clear and short instructions: if your instructions are long and have many details, GPT Builder might ignore some lines.

• Save your instructions somewhere safe: You should store your instructions in a Google Doc or something similar. They could get lost if not stored properly.

• You can guide what the user hears from GPT: Tell GPT exactly what to say to users and how to guide them

• Test your GPT a lot: If it doesn't do what you want, you can add new instructions.
