🆕 Midjourney 5.2: Improvements in AI for Creating Images

Midjourney has just launched version 5.2 of its AI image maker. The update includes a 'Zoom out' feature, which lets the AI add more detail to an existing picture. Users can adjust the zoom and shape of the image, and even make it square. The new 'Aesthetics System' produces clearer, more pleasing images, and the AI is better at understanding text commands. Users can also now use a '/shorten' command to remove unnecessary words from their instructions. The 5.2 version is currently the default, but users can switch back if needed.

1. AI Investments Dip:

Investments in artificial intelligence (AI) firms have dropped considerably. In the first three months of this year, there was a 43% decline compared to the last quarter, with a total investment of $5.4 billion.

2. Steady Rise of AI Giants:

The first quarter of '23 gave birth to five new AI companies, each worth $1 billion or more, a rate consistent with the previous quarter. Three of these billion-dollar firms, namely Anthropic, Adept, and Character.AI, are in the field of generative AI.

3. Silicon Valley Bounces Back:

Despite the worldwide dip in AI investment, Silicon Valley has defied the trend. In the first quarter of '23, the region experienced a 41% surge in funding and a 20% increase in deal-making.

🆘 100,000+ ChatGPT accounts were hacked

Group-IB, a Singapore-based cybersecurity company, reports that more than 100,000 ChatGPT login details were stolen and ended up on the dark web.

The primary wrongdoer is a malicious software known as Raccoon Infostealer. This sneaky malware often slips into devices via seemingly harmless emails and texts, just like the cunning animal it's named after.

To counter these increasing cybersecurity threats, OpenAI has promised to invest $1 million in initiatives that use AI for cybersecurity. This move highlights their dedication to protecting user privacy and ensuring their security.

💶 Dropbox Steps into AI Field with $50M Pledge

Dropbox has initiated a new venture fund worth $50 million aimed at supporting startups in the artificial intelligence sector.

Dropbox's VP and GM, Sateesh Srinivasan, shared with TechCrunch that their goal is to propel the AI ecosystem and back the upcoming startups using AI to redefine the contemporary work experience.

Alongside this, Dropbox also unveiled new AI-fueled features for its cloud storage service. These enhancements let users ask questions directly to documents, find specific data across their entire Dropbox, and link other applications via their dashboard.

💸 AWS launches $100M program to fund generative AI initiatives 

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has kicked off the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center, a project backed by $100 million. The center is designed to assist startups specializing in generative AI. By linking AWS's data scientists and engineers with customers and partners, the program hopes to boost creativity and outcomes in the field of generative AI.

Cortical Labs, a startup from Australia, aims to revolutionize the AI sector with computers powered by human brain cells. With an ability to carry out functions like playing video games, the company plans to put these biological computers on the market by the year's end.
