Why it matters: In the U.S., the demand for AI software engineers is making tech jobs grow faster than other jobs. San Francisco, Seattle, and New York are the main places for these jobs, having 44% of them. In Canada, Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal are the top cities, with 60% of AI jobs. This need is expected to help the economy and make property markets better.

Some people say scaling laws don't work because GPT-4o isn't much better than the original GPT-4.

However, GPT-4o is actually a smaller, more refined model that hasn't been scaled up, which is why it's cheaper—costing $2.5/$10 compared to $30/$60 for GPT-4.

This pattern has happened before with GPT-3 and will likely happen with GPT-5. Initially, the biggest version of GPT-5 will be very expensive, but OpenAI might later make smaller, cheaper versions. It’s best to judge scaling laws by comparing the major versions like GPT-3, GPT-4, and GPT-5, rather than the smaller updates.
