Using Local Model on Your Browser

Now you can use Bring Your Own Model (BYOM) in Brave Nightly. It allows you to connect Brave's AI assistant Leo to your own AI models, whether they're on your computer or somewhere else. This gives you more control over customization and keeps your data private.

Step 1: Install Ollama

1. Visit Ollama Download, select your platform, and download and unzip the file.

2. Move the application to your desktop or Application folder.

3. Open the application, follow the installation steps, and finish.

4. Open your terminal and type ollama pull llama3 to run Meta's Llama 3 model locally. Ensure your laptop has at least 8GB of RAM. Wait for the model to download, which may take some time.

Step 2: Configure in Leo

1. Open the Brave browser, go to Settings, then Leo.

2. In the Bring your own model section, click Add new model.

3. Enter the model details:

   • Label: Name of the model in the menu.

   • Model request name: Name used for server requests (must match the server’s expected name).

   • Server endpoint: URL of your serving framework, typically http://localhost:11434/v1/chat/completions.

   • API Key: Add if required by the framework for authentication.

4. Click Add Model to integrate your model with Leo.

Using Remote Models

1. For external models like OpenAI's GPT-4, use https://api.openai.com/v1/chat/completions as the endpoint.

2. Add the model name and your private API key in the respective fields to connect.

This setup ensures local processing without data transfer to third parties and supports integration with any local or remote model complying with the OpenAI chat protocol.
