AI CHART

AI could greatly speed up sales of PCs and smartphones, just like how the pandemic caused a big increase in PC demand.

AI demand will have a much bigger impact on semiconductor supply chains for smartphones and PCs compared to GPUs. This is due to the many components involved in these devices.

The most vulnerable part: Advanced fabs that produce the most high-tech chips are at the highest risk.

Potential growth: If AI adoption increases PC sales by 31% and smartphone sales by 15% between 2023 and 2026, these fabs will need to boost output by 25% to 35%.

What it means: To meet this demand, four or five more advanced fabs would need to be built, costing an estimated $40 to $75 billion. This also supports the many fabs that major companies are already constructing.

Why it matters: Building these fabs is crucial to handle future AI-driven growth and to ensure the supply chain can keep up with the demand for advanced chips in smartphones and PCs.
