OpenAI has significantly cut the cost of GPT-4 tokens from $36 to $4 per million, a 79% drop per year. There's also a cheaper $2 option with a slower response time.
At $4/million tokens, you'd be spending only $1.44/hour – which is significantly lower than the minimum wage in the U.S. and many other countries.
Why this happened? Prices are falling due to cheaper open-weight models like Llama 3.1 and advances in hardware from companies like Groq and NVIDIA.
What’s we do next: Andrew Ng suggests that plan for future tech as token prices will likely keep dropping. Focus on building useful apps, not just optimizing costs, and consider switching to newer models or providers for better pricing and features.

Create Custom AI 'Gems' That Have Access To YouTube, Gmail, Or Drive
Go to Gemini (You need an Advanced plan for this) and click the Gem icon at the bottom left. Then, click "New Gem."
Name your Gem and type your instructions. To add an extension, type “@” and choose what you need (like YouTube or Docs).
Test your Gem in the “Preview” section. If it works well, click “Save” and then “Start Chat.”
To start a chat with a Gem, open the left menu and choose your Gem. Gemini shows your recent chats with it.
Our POV: Currently, you cannot upload your knowledge files to Gems, which means Gems isn't much different from the default Gemini. We hope Google will update this feature soon.
