Six weeks of after-school AI tutoring helped all students, with girls benefiting the most as they initially lagged behind. Instead of ChatGPT, the program used Microsoft Copilot, guided by teachers who provided initial prompts and support.

🤖 AutoGen v0.4: The AI Framework Upgrade You Didn’t Know You Needed
What’s new in AutoGen v0.4? Think scalability, extensibility, and smoother workflows.
If you’ve struggled with clunky APIs, debugging nightmares, or agents that can’t play nice across systems, this update is for you.
1. Redesigned Framework
AutoGen v0.4 is all about layers—and no, we’re not talking cake.
Core: The foundation for event-driven agent systems.
AgentChat: A task-driven API for group chats, code execution, and pre-built agents.
Extensions: Supports add-ons like Azure or OpenAI, so you can mix and match.
2. Key Features That Actually Matter
Asynchronous Messaging: Agents talk back and forth without tripping over each other.
Modular Design: Plug in your custom agents, tools, or memory modules with ease.
Debugging Tools: Metric tracking and message tracing—plus OpenTelemetry support.
Scalability: Build agent networks that work across companies, countries, and chaos.
Cross-Language Support: Python and .NET work together, with more languages on the way.
Full Type Support: Fewer bugs, more productivity.
3. Developer Tools You’ll Actually Use
AutoGen Bench: Test your agents in different scenarios and see what sticks.
AutoGen Studio: A low-code playground for rapid prototyping. Highlights include:
Real-time updates.
Mid-execution control (pause, tweak, resume).
Visual tools for message flow and team-building.
4. New Multi-Agent App: Magentic-One
This isn’t your average AI tool. Magentic-One tackles open-ended tasks across domains, making it a Swiss Army knife for complex challenges.
Why it matters: AutoGen v0.4 fixes the messy bits of agentic AI—debugging, scaling, and collaboration—while making it easier for researchers and developers to jump in. It’s not just an upgrade; it’s a foundation for the future of agent-driven systems.
So, is it groundbreaking? Not yet. But it’s laying the tracks for something big.

📚 Researchers tested AI models with “impossible” languages - grammars not found in human languages. While LLMs theoretically should master these as easily as real languages, the study showed otherwise. AI struggled more with artificial languages, especially those far from human communication styles.

From Chalkboards to Chatbots: Transforming Learning in Nigeria, One Prompt at a Time
Tired of lectures that put you to sleep? Meet Uyi, a high school student from Edo Boys High School in Benin City, Nigeria, who’s discovering that AI can be a tutor, coach, or guide—all thanks to the right prompt.
His school joined a pilot program using generative AI to support learning after hours. So, what happened when AI stepped into classrooms? Three big takeaways from the experiment will blow your mind.
1. Learning Gains for Everyone—Not Just the Top Students
A six-week AI-driven program turned things around for students across the board. Here’s the kicker: the gains weren’t limited to AI topics or digital skills.
English proficiency, the main focus, shot up.
Students also did better in their year-end exams—topics that weren’t even part of the pilot.
Girls outpaced boys, narrowing the performance gap.
Bottom line: AI as a tutor doesn’t just work—it levels the playing field.
2. Show Up, Soar Higher
Attendance was a challenge. Rainy season floods? Teacher strikes? After-school jobs? Life got in the way. But here’s the deal: every extra day students showed up, their scores climbed higher.
The program had no “ceiling effect”—more time = more progress.
A longer program could deliver even bigger results.
Attendance is key, and a better plan to tackle obstacles could make this approach unstoppable.
3. Two Years’ Progress in Six Weeks
Let this sink in: students achieved learning gains equal to two years of regular school in just six weeks.
0.3 standard deviations of improvement might sound small, but it beats 80% of other education interventions.
Compared to structured pedagogy and other strategies, this was faster and more effective.
If this is what a short pilot can do, imagine the potential for a full academic year.
What’s Next?
This pilot is just the start. It’s the first study to evaluate generative AI as a tutor in a developing context. But questions remain:
Will students continue using AI skills to master other topics?
How can teachers and AI collaborate better?
Are there any unintended consequences we need to watch for?
Why It Matters
Generative AI doesn’t replace learning—it supercharges it. With programs like this, Nigeria and other developing countries could leapfrog traditional education challenges.
Stay tuned for the final blog in this series, where we’ll explore how to scale this approach without losing what makes it work. In the meantime, ask yourself: how can one great prompt change everything for you?
